  • The Breathing Bow
    This piece was concieved after running an experimental cello class over a period of 6 months at Bath Spa University in 2000, using the principals of Voice-Movement-Therapy. It was originally published in the 'Strad magazine' in June 2002 and on the web-based 'Internet Cello Society' in 2003.

  • Stagefright - some more thoughts
    In addition to the work with breath, the following points, here distilled, constitute the part of my thesis - 'The Dance of Sound' - which thesis explores the importance of breath, voice and movement in string playing. This is the foundation of my approach to cello teaching and grew into 'The Dance of Sound' workshops I now run with Carol Grimes and Sophie Ferman. I believe these points to be pertinent to the issue of stage fright
